Read With Squeaks

Books I read, books I review, books for me, books for you!

My name is Mika, and I love reading books! I decided to start this blog in order to share what I’m reading and to help other children find what they might like to read.

Some of my favorite quotes about reading

In books, I have travelled, not only to other worlds, but into my own.

Anna Quindlen

The more that you read, the more that you know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

Dr. Seuss

She read books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live.

Keeper of the lost cities

Book #1 Book #4 Book #9

My summary for the book

I’ve never done this before… but this post is actually about an entire series! The Keeper of the Lost Cities series left me speechless. The vivid details of life and drama and hope really work like gravity towards the books. My parents literally had to take the book from my hands before school so I wouldn’t read at recess. These books are about a girl Sophie… who’s very special. Grown up with her parents, she never felt like she truly belonged, and when a school field trip and an especially bright pair of teal eyes come in, her world unravels. (I promise it’s not as cheesy as it sounds…until the last couple of books:) These thrilling books lead you through the life of Sophie Foster, and when the lines between friend and enemy blur, she is forced to take extra precaution. Building friends and losing some, these books are perfect for late elementary and early middle school readers wanting a book to curl up in.

The summary from the back of the book #1

Twelve-year-old Sophie Foster has a secret. She’s a Telepath–someone who can read minds. It’s a talent she’s never known how to explain. Everything changes the day she meets Fitz, a mysterious (and adorable) boy who appears out of nowhere, and who can also read minds like her. She discovers there’s somewhere she does belong, and that staying with her family will put her in grave danger. In the blink of an eye. Sophie is forced to leave behind everything and start a new life in a place that is vastly different from what she has ever known.

Quotes from a mix of the books:

“I would rather be punished for making the right decision than live with the guilt of making the wrong one for the rest of my life.”
― Shannon Messenger, Keeper of the Lost Cities

“Sophie flung a pillow at his head.

Or, she tried to.

Throwing with her left arm was much harder than she expect, and…

She ended up nailing Magnate Leto in the face.

Keefe doubled over, clutching his sides and gasping between choking laughs: “THAT…WAS…THE…GREATEST…THING…IVE…EVER…SEEN!”
― Shannon Messenger, Flashback

“Why do clothes never have enough pockets? There should always be lots of pockets… the more pockets the better!”
― Shannon Messenger, Flashback

“A school isn’t a school until Sophie tries to destroy it”
― Shannon Messenger

“Because our family doesn’t decide who we are. We decide who we are. Believe me, it drives my parents crazy. And sometimes that’s the only thought that gets me through the day.”
― Shannon Messenger, Everblaze

“Whatever secrets lie in your past do not change who you are now.”
― Shannon Messenger
